Vomiting blood (hematemesis)
  • The most common condition that causes vomiting is peptic ulcer. Others include ruptured esophageal varices (in patients with liver cirrhosis), gastric cancer, esophageal cancer, severe vomiting that causes gastric mucosal laceration, gastritis, gastric leiomyoma, jaundice, hematological diseases, etc. Sometimes when a patient experiences nasopharyngeal bleeding or hemoptysis, and swallows the blood, but then vomits it, it can be confused with hematemesis.
